No Clock Change After All

A clarification came out from USA Archery this week, which reverses what we thought was going to happen to the shot clock:

The World Archery bylaw change, which reduces the shooting time in qualification and individual Olympic, compound and indoor rounds from 40 seconds per arrow to just 30 seconds, will only apply to world ranking events in 2022, beginning March 1. This means that USA Archery events will not implement or reflect this change and our event clocks will remain at 40 seconds per arrow.

You can read more on the USA Archery news page. As you were!

Holiday Party and Many Reminders

This Saturday (Dec. 18th) we will have our annual Holiday Party during practice. Archers are invited to bring a treat (side dish or dessert, or whatever you want) to share. JOAD will provide a sandwich ring and drinks. We’ll do a little practice and then play archery games!

We will NOT have practice the following Saturday, which will be December 25th. We WILL have a special practice on Monday, December 27th beginning at 6 PM. It’s okay if you can’t make it, but for those who can, we will focus on getting ready for the start of tournaments the next weekend. After this date, all practices will be on Mondays at 6.

Archers who are going to miss a practice need to let us know. Please email Laura at hrelec02@gmail.com if you will not be at practice.

Tournament invitations are coming in! We’ve already sent a request to Beaver Valley. If you are have not made choices on the Tournament Signup Page, then we have not requested a line for you. Wendi will be handling the tournament requests, so should email her at scheduling@falconjoad.org if you are making changes to your requested times.

All archers who are shooting in tournaments need to have a CURRENT membership with USA Archery. Some clubs will not register an archer without a USAA number. Please go to https://www.usarchery.org/memberships/become-a-member to set up your “Youth All-Access” membership.

All JOAD member are required to be current members of the Falcon Archers by January. Since there were zero new Falcon members at the December meeting last week, we will assume that all new or lapsed members will be at the next meeting, January 12th at 7:00.

Tournament Signups Now Active

The link for Tournament Signups is now active. Yo can find it in the “Current Year Info” tab (on the right side or bottom of the website), or go to this direct link.

As a reminder, archers should mark their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th line choice for each tournament. When the tournament invitation comes out, we will send our preferences right away. After a week or two, we’ll get back everyone’s line assignments and post them on the website.

Practices begin Nov. 6th

Welcome to the 2021-22 JOAD Season!

  • The first practice for all Archers is Sat. Nov. 6th.  Arrive and equipment setup at 8:30AM.
  • Be READY to shoot at 9AM.  If there are any announcements or awards to present, we will do this at 9AM (sharp). I don’t want any archers showing up during Announcements and assembling their equipment.  It is a distraction!
  • Set up equipment in the shooting area and then store your case up in the meeting area in the shelving provided.  This will lessen the clutter on tables.
  • Practices Nov. thru Dec. Saturdays 8:30AM to approx. 12PM
  • Practices Jan. thru Mid March will move to Monday evening from 6 to 8PM.

The new schedule is posted on the website. Other links (tournament signups, etc.) to follow.

Tournament Calendar and Signups

Okay, we’re finally rolling with the website for the 2020-2021 Falcon JOAD season. The official tournament calendar is available at this link:

Tournament Calendar

You can sign up for the tournaments using this google form:

Tournament Signups

To sign up, find the row with your archer’s name, and for each tournament indicate your preferred line time by entering 1, 2, 3, and 4. This year, Lisa brought her spread-sheeting skillz to bear, and your choices are automatically populated into the “request” forms for each shoot. That way, as soon as we get an invitation, we can send out the request with the latest updated requests! SO — you do not have to notify Lisa if you make any last minute changes.

At this time, most of the clubs ARE planning to hold tournaments. If you sign up and are awarded a spot, you are expected to attend. If you are not sure that you WANT to attend tournaments (because of Covid or for any other reason), then just don’t sign up. Of course, last minute health & safety regulation changes may affect whether any given tournament actually happens.

Update on JOAD States

Message from Randy McDonald, about the rescheduled State JOAD Tournament.

I have been working on getting state shoot rescheduled and what I came up with is having he shoot at Crowfoot Sportsmen’s Club 4997 Crowfoot Road Murrysville Pa.15668. The date is Saturday May 23 & Sunday May 24 2020. I tried to have it at Lancaster Archery but they could not fit the shoot in until some time in the fall.Attached is the list of archers that have already sent in there registration forms so they will have first choice if they are going to shoot or not and after I get answers from them I will open it up for others to shoot if I have room on that time because of the way it is set up. The first day Juniors and female cadet recurves will shoot at 9am / the rest of the cadets will shoot at 2pm. The second day cubs will shoot at 9am and bowman will shoot at 2pm. The reason for the long time is that I will have the Olympic round after each line and the age class awards and Olympic round awards will be handed out.
Each archer will receive tickets for the auction table when they get there and all the tickets will  pulled on the 2pm sunday line.
So please send this out to all of your archers so they can get back to me if they are coming. I will send out refunds  the ones that can not make it.
Thanks Randy Mcdonald

Please contact Randy at this email address to let him know if you will attend, or how to handle your refund: ram32092@comcast.net

COVID-19 Update

It seems like every website has a COVID-19 Update, and I did not want to be left out. So here you go.

The Shooter of the Year competition scheduled for March 28th has been postponed.

The PSAA State Indoor Championships scheduled for April 4th and 5th have been cancelled.

The JOAD State Championships scheduled for April 4th have been postponed. We share the venue with PSAA, which means that we’ll have to find a new venue to host the shoot. That’s not going to be easy, but we’ll see what happens.

Falcon Archers sent out the following update, which should have been emailed to all members. If you didn’t see it, contact me so I can figure out why.

In response to the public health concerns I am requesting your cooperation in implementing the following guidelines:
1) Until further notice Falcon Archers facilities are open to MEMBERS ONLY.  Sorry no guests.
2) Please exercise proper social distancing at the club. Six (6) feet is recommended.  We urge everyone to shoot outside weather permitting.
3) Please sanitize all indoor surfaces you contact before leaving.  We will try to have cleaning supplies available in the clubhouse, but it might be advisable to bring your own sanitary wipes.
4) Please limit work teams to small groups of 3 to 5.
5) These guidelines will be in effect until March 31st at which point the Board of Directors will reevaluate the situation.

I do hope to begin outdoor shooting as a group on Monday evenings, once we get the “all clear”. In the mean time, remember that there is plenty of room to shoot outdoors at the club for solo practicing.

ALL 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th place shooters will be shooting in the first elimination round.
(The 1st and 2nd place have a bye, so we won’t need a score from them to see if they advance to the semi-finals. They are already advancing.)

Before we start the shooting for the semi-finals, ALL 1st & 2nd place shooters will get (2) practice ends. Then ALL semi-finalist will begin shooting for scores for the semi-finals .

We will be doing A and B lines for the elimination round AND for the semi-finals.
(NOT for the FINALS)

Once we have completed the first elimination AND the semi-finals, we can now go onto the shoot-off for the Shooter of the Year Champions.

WE WILL GIVE ALL FINALIST, (1) ONE PRACTICE END.

The 8 finalist from all the Bowman/Cub classes (male & female, compound and recurve) will be shooting at the same time. They will be shooting on one line.

When they have finished, then all 8 finalists from Cadet/Junior classes will shoot. They, also, will be shooting on one line.

Upon completion of the FINALS, we will be handing out the awards and getting some
information from ALL Shooter of the Year Champions for jackets.
