Announcements / Lancaster Classic

  1. Crowfoot times are available from the website.
  2. With the Charleroi tournament being cancelled, the Three Rivers Classic is moving to that weekend — March 24th. The Three Rivers Classic is held at Crowfoot, and adults and youth can shoot it together. It’s run in a standard JOAD format. If you are a mom, dad, or grandparent who shoots, it’s great to go and shoot WITH your kid(s) at the Three Rivers Classic! More info when it becomes available.
  3. If you’re a mom or dad who doesn’t shoot, why not take the Intro to Archery at Falcon Archers, and change that? You don’t know what you’re missing.
  4. This weekend is the Lancaster Classic, so this is my yearly admonition to WATCH GOOD ARCHERS, it will improve your shooting! You can watch live on Lancaster Archery’s YouTube channel. They will live-broadcast the qualifying rounds on Thursday and Friday, but what you really want to see is the Shoot-Up. The Schedule is below. It’s ALL fabulous, but I especially recommend watching your discipline — Recurvers watch “Women’s Recurve” and “Olympic Recurve” on Sunday ; Fixed Pin watch “Bowhunter”. (And there’s a good chance you’ll see someone from Falcon Archers in the Bowhunter finals).

Jobs and Food for our 2024 Falcon JOAD Tournament

These links are now available on the website to sign up for jobs and food donations for the Falcon JOAD Tournament, January 19-21, 2024.

Falcon Tournament Jobs (link fixed)
Falcon Tournament Food

Our Falcon JOAD tournament is the only fundraiser of the year, and is important to keep the program going. So all families are asked to work at least one job, and to donate at least one item for the kitchen. Because we are much smaller this year (only 20 active archers), we could really use the help if your family can work more than one job slot, or donate more than one food item.

As a note on the tournament jobs, the “Hang Targets / 50/50” jobs are just for youth archers. So if parents are scheduling to come and work one of the other jobs, why not bring your youth along to help sell tickets?

Announcements

There will not be any coaches at practice this Saturday (Nov 25), but the clubhouse WILL be open for archers, so come down and practice! Parents are reminded that they are responsible for their own children. (My thanks to working members the Nugents for agreeing to open the club.)

Join us for the Marianne Nuzzo Memorial Archery Tournament, December 9th and 10th. You can just send coach Jeff an email or a Remind message to reserve a line spot.

The form is now open to request your line spots for all upcoming JOAD tournaments. Go to the Google form, find your line, and mark your choices as 1, 2, 3, etc. Try to be flexible — not everyone gets their first choice.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Holiday Party This Saturday

This Saturday (Dec. 31st) we will have our annual Holiday Party during practice. Archers are invited to bring a treat (side dish or dessert, or whatever you want) to share. JOAD will provide a sandwich ring. We’ll do a little practice and then play archery games!

Monday practices begin on January 2nd, 6:00 pm until 8:00. If you are going to miss practice, please let us know via Remind.

States Is On – March 11th

First, results from the Crowfoot Tournament are available from this link, or from the website.

I have received word that the Pennsylvania State JOAD Indoor Championship Tournament WILL be happening, in combination with the PSAA State Indoor Championship at the State Farms Show Complex in Harrisburg. To make room on the calendar, these changes were also made:

  • The Coraopolis Tournament is moved to March 25th. Please update your preferred line times accordingly.
  • The Three Rivers Classic at Crowfoot will be cancelled for 2023.

More about the State JOAD Tournament

Specific details will be coming later, but here is what you can expect from the state championship, and why you should go. The Pennsylvania State Archery Association (PSAA) rents a Farm Show building for the weekend, and sets up about 100 target butts. PSAA members compete in a two day tournament, and on the Saturday evening in between those days, the JOAD Championship is held.

PSAA States 2016

Falcon JOAD will usually reserve a block of rooms at a nearby hotel. Some JOAD archers choose to spend the whole weekend, competing in the PSAA Championship as well as JOAD. Others will just spend Saturday night. After the JOAD shoot, we gather back at the hotel for a pizza party.

With the exception of those who choose to attend Nationals, this is the biggest tournament that most JOAD archers ever attend. You will get to shoot against archers from all over the state (not just the Western half), in a big venue. It’s terrific fun and a great experience.

When I get more details, I will provide them here.

Marianne Nuzzo Memorial Shoot Results

Results from the Marianne Nuzzo Memorial Tournament can have been published, and you can view them here. Many thanks to those who came to shoot, and to those who came to help out!

Shooter of the Year

I have added a link for the Western PA Shooter Of The Year Info. To qualify for Shooter of the Year, you need to attend at least 6 local tournaments. The top six scores from all shooters in each category are totaled at the end of the season, and then invitations to the Shooter of the Year Competition are extended to these archers:

• Top Six Male Recurve Shooters in the U13 and U15 Classes
• Top Six Female Recurve Shooters in the U13 and U15 Classes
• Top Six Male Recurve Shooters in the U18 and U21 Classes
• Top Six Female Recurve Shooters in the U18 and U21 Classes
• Top Six Male Compound Shooters in the U13 and U15 Classes
• Top Six Female Compound Shooters in the U13 and U15 Classes
• Top Six Male Compound Shooters in the U18 and U21 Classes
• Top Six Female Compound Shooters in the U18 and U21 Classes

. This Invitational will be held on April 1st at Crowfoot, and will follow an Olympic Match Play format.

Falcon Archers Membership

It’s time to renew you memberships, or to join Falcon Archers. The next meeting will be this Wednesday, December 15th, 7:00 pm at the clubhouse. To continue in JOAD, you must join or renew by January. So take care of it this week!
