Watch Some Quality Archery

It’s a good idea for developing archers to occasionally watch some really good quality archers do their thing.  I think it’s helpful, while standing on the line, if you are trying your best to LOOK like Brady Ellison or Levi Morgan.  Maybe you can’t quite get the shot off like they can, but you could do a lot worse than trying to mimic their form.

Some of you may not have known that YouTube was streaming the Lancaster Archery Classic over the first weekend of February.  No worries — they have it all saved for you!  Here are two great places to start.

For Recurve shooters, why not watch 13 year-old Casey Kaufhold compete in the Women’s Recurve Finals?  You can pick up the action right here:  https://youtu.be/b6WY2G0nQ-4?t=606

For Compound shooters I would recommend watching the Masters Open Pro Finals:  https://youtu.be/rD_EnlHoFfc  I picked this match because Benton Christensen shoot a trigger release, like many of you.  And it has a very exciting ending!

Consider this archery homework, if you’d like.  At our next practice I will talk to recurve archers about The Flip, and for compound shooters we can discuss the various types of releases, and which one is really the best.

Hotel Reservations for States

Our group rate has been set up for rooms at the Hampton Inn for weekend of April 7thClick this link to go directly to our group page.  Or you can call the hotel (717-540-0900) and ask for the Falcon JOAD group rate.

Updates on the website today include:

Pennsylvania State JOAD Championship, April 7th

The 48th ANNUAL PENNSYLVANIA J.O.A.D. STATE INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP will be Saturday April 7th at the State Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, PA.  You will need to register and pay for this individually.  You can find all the information and a t-shirt order form on the website, or from these links:

I will be reserving a block of rooms at the Hampton Inn (30 Capital Dr., Harrisburg), and will post information about that soon.  Remember that this is also the weekend of the PSAA State Indoor Championship. Most  Falcon Archer shooters will sign up for the morning line (Saturday and Sunday) at the PSAAs, so for archery families you may choose to make a whole weekend of it.

Work Day, Results, Team Photo

This Saturday is a mandatory work day at the Falcon Archers for all working members.  If you are unable to attend (I know many of you have to shoot at noon on Saturday), you should contact Tim Sheriff (indslpwr04@gmail.com) to arrange for a make-up assignment.

Along the same line, remember that all Falcon memberships need to be kept up to date.  If you have not paid your dues for the year, the February meeting is you last chance to do so and remain current.  The meeting is on Wednesday, February 14th, 8:00 PM.

Results from the Clairton shoot are now on the website, and results from our shoot will be there very soon.  I have also added the line times for the Chieftain tournament, and updated the “Shooter of the Year” standings.

A photographer will be at our Monday night practice on January 29th, to take a team photo, and individual or family photos for those who want them.  Please be ON TIME (6:30) and IN UNIFORM!  You can download a picture of the photo order form here: Photo Order Form.  The photographer has also request that if you are getting individual photos, bring CLEAN SHOES with you to practice.  That way you don’t track mud onto his backdrop.

NSSA Results

A couple updates to the website to note:

  1. I added “Line Times” as a top menu item, and also added it to the “Current Year Info” section.  This links to a single page that displays all the scheduled lines for this year.  I will make updates directly to this page as new assignments are sent.  (The page is in a better format now, so it should be easier to read on a mobile device).
  2. I changed the second block on the right-hand margin to be “Tournament Results”.  I just posted the NSSA results there, and will continue to add additional result documents there as they become available.

You can get to the NSSA results directly from this link.
